How to create a short link with an AI-generated slug

The Short.io AI powered slug generation feature uses algorithms to assess the content of a webpage and construct a short, meaningful string of characters that serves as a unique identifier for the link.

The slugs that come out are concise, easy to remember, and designed for both readability and search engine optimization.

To ensure the privacy of our users, we have deployed an in-cloud version of Anthropic’s Claude Haiku and Sonnet models (for Mainland China we use Qwen instead of Claude).

Even though AWS is still in charge of the models, no data is sent to any third party including Anthropic and Alibaba themselves.

To generate slugs with AI

  1. From your Short.io Dashboard shorten a link with a domain for which the AI slug generation feature is enabled:

  2. Several slugs are suggested for selection. Click on one to make your choice, for example:

  3. Click on Save to confirm. The new slug is applied.

You still have the option to examine the other AI slug suggestions available in the Edit Short URL settings and to choose an alternative from that list (or enter a different slug of your choice):

To disable/re-enable AI slug generation

The AI powered slug generation feature is enabled by default for each newly added domain to Short.io. You can disable and/or re-enable it as follows:

  1. Sign in to your Short.io account.

  2. Click on Domain Settings and then on Slug generation:

  3. Deselect (or select if it was disabled) the option Enable AI powered link slug generation.

  4. Click on Save to confirm.

Hereafter, if the option is disabled, when you shorten a link the Short.io AI slug generator will no longer suggest relevant unique identifiers for you:
